Cardiac Anaesthesiology

Cardiac anaesthesia is inextricably intertwined with cardiac surgery, and has mainly evolved in the last 50 years and grown into the largest influential sub-speciality of anaesthesiology over the past eleven years.

It is by no means an exaggeration to state that the remarkable progress of cardiac surgery over the last six years in our hospital has been possible only because surgeons were ably aided by innovations in cardiac anaesthesia. From PA catheters and Trans-esophageal Echocardiography to Thoracic Epidurals enabling fast-track anaesthesia for beating heart surgery, anaesthesiologists have kept pace with all the advancement in cardiac surgery by constantly re-inventing themselves, learning new techniques and mastering new technology.

Our Performance…

The Total Number of cases done from April2005 to March 2006 is 338. This covers the entire gamut of cardiothoracic anaesthesia including anaesthesia for Coronary Bypass surgery, Valvular heart surgery, Congenital cardiac surgery and Thoracic & Vascular surgery.

The Beating-heart…

In Coronary Revascularisation surgery, the main emphasis is on Beating-Heart CABG. This is a new and exciting development in the field with significant reduction in morbidity and cost, as cardio-pulmonary bypass is totally avoided. This requires greater haemodynamic monitoring and control, and taxes the anaesthesiologist to the limit, not allowing him to relax even a moment. A dedicated team carries out successfully.
