Mother Therea Special Ward

The service to HIV/AIDS, a most devastating disease in the world, started in the year 1998. With the assistance of Tamilnadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS), the team, guided under the eminent leaders Dr.V.N.Rajasekaran and Dr.S.Senthil Prabahar, provides excellent services to People Living With HIV/AIDS. Comprehensive service for PLWHAs involves medical care, counseling, home care, nutritional training, hotline service, networking, recreation facilities, medication, referral services and integration with other NGOs.

Mother Theresa ward’s 10-bedded clinic provides free service on bed, drugs, treatment, food and around the clock nursing services. The team helps to treat on health care for PLWHAs, as their progresses and opportunistic infections recur. The unique feature of Mother Theresa Special Ward is the availability of higher specialty consultant care as and when needed.

Since counseling plays a vital role in the management of the HIV, the counseling service focus on post test, individual and family counseling, nutritional care, financial status, treatment care, home based care, legal, health and hygienic. The counseling process is through confidential care and services for PLWHAs.

Since 1998, the beneficiaries are more than 6000 as both in and out patients. Mother Theresa ward also has community level interventions through programs in and around Madurai district. Though it is an exclusive ward for HIV, it is situated in the core of hospital, which eliminates the social stigma.
