Nephrology

This year was a glorious year for our Department. Our department was recognized as a force to reckon within both India and abroad.

Dialysis

Our department houses one of the largest Haemodialysis units in Tamil Nadu. We have the most recent haemodialysis machines, which offer cutting edge technology at a reasonable cost. We have dedicated machines and separate chambers for HCV and HBV infected atients. We also have facilities for continuous renal replacement therapies. We perform specialized procedure like plasmapharesis for a variety of renal as well as extra renal diseases. We have an active Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) program. A Baxter PD centre was established in collaboration with Baxter India Ltd, to enhance CAPD program.

Renal transplantation

With over 275 renal transplantations with excellent success rates, we are one of premier institutions performing renal transplantations in South India. Latest protocols for postoperative immuno suppressions are followed with prompt drug level monitoring and also have facilities for performing Cadaver Transplants.

Interventional Nephrology

Interventional nephrology is the latest sub specialty of nephrology. We perform a number of procedures including AV fistula, renal angiograms and angioplasties. We are one of the very few centres doing endo vascular interventions in the post renal transplant patients. Other percutaneous interventions will be introduced soon.

We also have an active critical care nephrology unit that takes care of life threatening medical and nephrological emergencies.

Our department is one of the few centers approved for postgraduate training in Nephrology. We have emerged as one of the very few centers in India doing original research.
